#Tequila Sunrise

Course Drinks
Cuisine Mexican

Equipment

  • Tall glass (preferably a highball or hurricane glass)
  • Bar spoon or stirrer
  • Jigger (for measuring)
  • Juicer (if using fresh oranges)
  • Ice scoop or tongs

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces tequila preferably silver or blanco
  • 4 ounces orange juice freshly squeezed if possible
  • 1/2 ounce grenadine syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • Orange slice for garnish
  • Maraschino cherry for garnish

Instructions

  • Fill the Glass: Start by filling your tall glass with ice cubes, leaving some space at the top for the liquids.
  • Pour the Tequila: Measure 2 ounces of tequila and pour it over the ice.
  • Add Orange Juice: Next, add 4 ounces of orange juice. This will be the base of your cocktail.
  • Drizzle Grenadine: Slowly pour 1/2 ounce of grenadine syrup into the glass. It will sink to the bottom, creating that beautiful gradient effect that resembles a sunrise.
  • Garnish: Top it off with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry for a lovely presentation.
  • Serve: Give it a gentle stir with a bar spoon if you prefer a bit of blending, but traditionally it’s served without stirring to keep the sunrise effect intact.
  • Variations
  • Fruity Twist: Substitute orange juice with other juices like pineapple, mango, or cranberry for a tropical version.
  • Mocktail Version: Replace tequila with sparkling water and use the same proportions for a refreshing non-alcoholic drink.
  • Spicy Sunrise: Add a dash of jalapeño-infused tequila or muddle some jalapeño slices before adding the other ingredients for a spicy kick.
