Equipment

  • Equipment Needed: Cocktail shaker, muddler, jigger, strainer, glass

Ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • For the Lemon Basil Vodka Collins:
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce fresh lemon juice about half a lemon
  • 1 ounce simple syrup or to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves about 6-8, plus more for garnish
  • Club soda to top off
  • Ice cubes
  • Simple Syrup:
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar

Instructions

  • Method
  • Step 1: Make the Simple Syrup
  • Combine Water and Sugar: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar.
  • Heat: Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
  • Cool: Remove from heat and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Store any extra syrup in the refrigerator for up to a month.
  • Step 2: Muddle the Basil
  • Prepare the Glass: In a cocktail shaker, add the fresh basil leaves.
  • Muddle: Use a muddler to gently crush the basil leaves. This releases the essential oils and flavors. Avoid tearing them too much, as that can release bitterness.
  • Step 3: Mix the Cocktail
  • Add Ingredients: Pour in 2 ounces of vodka, 1 ounce of fresh lemon juice, and 1 ounce of simple syrup into the shaker.
  • Shake: Fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake well for about 15 seconds. This chills and combines the ingredients.
  • Step 4: Strain and Serve
  • Strain: Using a strainer, pour the mixture into a tall glass filled with ice cubes.
  • Top Off: Fill the glass with club soda, giving it a gentle stir.
  • Garnish: Add a sprig of fresh basil on top and a lemon wheel for decoration.
  • Step 5: Enjoy!
  • Take a sip and enjoy the refreshing flavors of the Lemon Basil Vodka Collins!
  • Variations
  • Herbal Infusion: Swap basil for other herbs like mint or thyme for a different flavor profile.
  • Fruit Twist: Add muddled strawberries or raspberries for a fruity variation.
  • Sparkling Touch: Replace club soda with sparkling lemonade for extra sweetness.
